WhatsApp Multi-Agent

WhatsApp multi-agent is a setup where multiple human agents and AI agents can access and respond to customer conversations on a single WhatsApp Business number simultaneously.

By default, the WhatsApp Business app supports only one user per number. Multi-agent capability, enabled through the WhatsApp Business API, allows teams to share a single WhatsApp number while maintaining organized, assigned conversations. This is essential for any business handling more than a handful of daily WhatsApp conversations.

Multi-agent platforms provide features like conversation assignment (routing to the right agent), transfer (moving conversations between agents), internal notes (team collaboration on a conversation), and supervisor monitoring. AI agents fit naturally into multi-agent setups — handling initial contact and routine queries, then transferring to specialized human agents when needed while preserving the full conversation context. The customer experiences a seamless conversation with one number, unaware of the transitions happening behind the scenes.
