Customer Success

Customer success is a business strategy focused on ensuring customers achieve their desired outcomes while using your product, driving retention, expansion, and advocacy.

In Depth

Customer success is proactive by nature — rather than waiting for customers to have problems, success teams actively guide customers toward achieving value. The discipline emerged in SaaS where recurring revenue models make retention critical. Key activities include onboarding guidance, adoption tracking, health scoring, business reviews, and renewal management.

Customer success teams use data to identify customers who are underutilizing the product or showing signs of dissatisfaction, then intervene with targeted support and training. AI agents are transforming customer success by automating many of these activities at scale: providing proactive tips based on usage patterns, alerting success managers when health scores drop, conducting automated check-ins, and delivering personalized training content. This allows human success managers to focus on strategic, high-value interactions while AI handles routine success motions.
