Data Encryption

Data encryption is the process of converting readable data into an unreadable format using cryptographic algorithms, protecting it from unauthorized access during storage and transmission.

Data encryption is a non-negotiable security requirement for customer support platforms that handle sensitive personal and business information. Two main categories apply: encryption at rest (protecting stored data in databases and file systems) and encryption in transit (protecting data as it moves between systems over networks). Modern encryption standards include AES-256 for data at rest and TLS 1.3 for data in transit.

For AI agent platforms, encryption must cover all customer data — conversation transcripts, personal information, payment details, and account data — both in the AI processing pipeline and in storage. Additional considerations include key management (how encryption keys are stored and rotated), field-level encryption (encrypting specific sensitive fields rather than entire databases), and searchable encryption (enabling search on encrypted data without decrypting). Enterprise customers typically require detailed encryption documentation as part of security reviews.
